This is what the model for the final shot looked like at the end. Notice that the normals on Gohans Face are forced into certain directions to create the anime shading. The Backdrop are just some planes on top of each other.

The next step is to draw lines onto the model, I tried to stay as close as possible to the anime and the source material for this shot.

Afterwards I created the outline by duplicating the mesh, inverting its normals and transforming it outwards by its normal direction. I changed the distance to the base model here and there to create some line thickness.

The next step was to create a separate texture for areas of the mesh that should always render as shadows. It allowed me to define further how the shading should look like.

Game Res. Gohan in Unreal 5

Hey everyone!
I'm thrilled to finally share this project with you all: Gohan getting chased by a dinosaur, directly inspired by a memorable scene from the anime.
As I share this, I can't help but feel saddened by the recent passing of Akira Toriyama, the creative genius behind Dragon Ball. His vision has inspired generations, mine included, and it's bittersweet to present this artwork in his memory.
Feel free to explore the process behind this piece. And a special shoutout to Ben Ayers for the Genshin Impact shader, which I've customized to enhance the details in this project.
I hope you enjoy this homage to a beloved series and its creator as much as I've enjoyed creating it.

cheers!
